As a partner at KDW with over 15 years of intellectual property experience, Matthew Russell brings a personalized approach to attention to IP matters. Leveraging his analytical and problem-solving skills, he clearly communicates with clients to keep them informed while developing optimal solutions for sophisticated legal challenges.

Matthew has a proven track record for success, as well as ethical integrity. He has achieved a high success rate in prosecution and securing valuable intellectual property protection for clients. He has also developed and implemented effective portfolio management strategies to increase ROI and asset value, in addition to delivering insightful and accurate legal opinions that have enabled clients to navigate complex IP issues.

Prior to joining KDW, Matthew accrued patent experience as Patent Examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office–specializing in computer gaming patent applications— and as patent clerk for the Carnegie Mellon University Department of Technology Transfer where he conducted IP research and analysis of potential patents. Before pursuing a law practice, Matthew worked for a Department of Defense contracting as a Project Engineer for three years, gaining experience in sonar system design.

While earning his law degree at the University of Pittsburgh, Matthew was a member of the Journal of Law and Commerce, the Student Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Intellectual Property and Technology Law Certificate Program.
